Reducing runway safety risk is a top priority for the FAA – and runway incursions are a special emphasis area on the private pilot check ride. So, since you know this is a special emphasis area, here’s a “freebie” for your private pilot check ride:
DPE: Tell me, what is a Runway Incursion?
You: Well, a runway incursion is any occurrence at an airport involving the incorrect presence of an aircraft, vehicle, or person on the protected area of a surface designated for the landing and take-off of aircraft.
You should know what a hotspot is, and where to find them in the FAA Airport/Facility Directory (A/FD). You should also know that there are four categories of runway incursions.
To get you thinking about runway incursions, I have created a Quizlet. All questions are one word answer, lowercase. Like other quizzes, this is not comprehensives. But these are basics. If these feel unfamiliar, probably need to further review.
